The Brookwood Concert, Jazz, and Marching Bands have established a tradition of excellence and have been consistent in quality performances given and entertainment value. Our mission and goal are to provide an outlet for students to develop musicianship, cooperation, leadership, and citizenship. The Brookwood Bands strive to challenge each student to become involved and contribute his/her best to the ensembles and to become responsible consumers of music. There are four concert bands grouped by experience and instrumentation needs. Each student regardless of experience level is placed in an ensemble in which he or she can contribute and yet be challenged to develop knowledge and performance skills to a higher level. All students are encouraged to participate in Georgia Music Educators’ Association events including District Level Honor Band, All-State and Clinic Bands, Large Group Performance Evaluation, Solo Ensemble Festival, and church and community performance organizations.
The Bronco Marching Band serves over 300 students each year. The group is comprised of members from all the band ensembles who are committed to a rigorous schedule of rehearsals and performances. Students participate in Pre-band Camp and Band Camp to develop skills necessary for the Fall performance schedule. The band participates in two competitions and all regular and post-season football games and home pre-game, half-time shows and select parades. The band travels on a major trip every other year and a mini overnight trip the off year. The band has traveled to London, Washington, DC, New York, San Francisco, Orlando and Hawaii.
The Brookwood Maroon and Gold Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Symphonic Winds perform at Georgia Music Educators Association LGPE and at two concerts each year. The Symphonic Winds (one of three auditioned bands at Brookwood) was the featured ensemble at the University of South Carolina Band Clinic and Conductors’ Symposium in 1995 and the University of Georgia High School Music Festival in 1995 and 2004. The Brookwood Symphonic Winds was the featured ensemble at the Inaugural Honor Bands of Georgia in 2007 and at the University of Alabama Honor Band Clinic in 2008. The band has also performed at the Georgia Music Educators’ In-Service Conference in 1991, 2001 and 2008 and the Southern Division MENC/GMEA In-Service Conference in 2001.
